Retirement celebration set for Selaba Travis

Selaba Travis

The UNMC Department of Internal Medicine will host a retirement tea for department adminstrator Selaba Travis from 3-5 p.m. on Nov. 6 in University Tower’s Private Dining Room C.

“Selaba has contributed to the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine in so many ways,” said department chair Debra Romberger, M.D. “She has been the heart of our department’s summer undergraduate research program and has influenced so many college students who have gone on to pursue both medicine and research.”

Dr. Romberger credited Travis with helping the department get National Institutes of Health funding for its summer program.

“She has been a big part of our communication efforts with her hard work on our regular newsletters and the biennial department reports,” she said. “She has always been willing to take on new tasks with a calm presence and a smile. I am so grateful for all she has done for us.”

Travis joined UNMC in the department of pathology & microbiology nearly 30 years ago. She began working in the internal medicine division of oncology & hematology in 1993, transitioning to internal medicine administration in 1999. In 2003, she began coordinating projects related to research under then-vice chair for research Dr. Romberger, the position Travis still holds.

“I owe a lot to Dr. Romberger for her support and mentorship,” Travis said. “Along the way, I have also worked for other leaders in internal medicine and I am appreciative to each of them for the experience.

“I will miss all of the wonderful people I have worked with over the years who have been part of my UNMC journey,” she said. “However, I am looking forward to the next chapter, and hope to take the lessons I have learned with me into the future.”
