SHARING Clinics seek faculty, student providers

picture disc.Since opening on Sept. 9, 1997, the SHARING Clinics have provided high quality, low cost care to medically underserved communities in Omaha.

The SHARING clinics are one of the few in the nation that are run and staffed by students from every health-profession college. At these clinics, students work with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, medical laboratory technicians and others to provide care to patients in need.

There are multiple clinics underneath the SHARING Clinic umbrella: SHARING, RESPECT, GOODLIFE and VISION.

  • The SHARING Clinic provides primary care to patients every Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m.
  • The RESPECT Clinic provides testing for sexually transmitted infections (STI), treatment and preventive counseling and education for patients every Monday from 5:30-7 p.m.
  • The GOODLIFE Clinic provides care to patients living with type 2 diabetes the second Wednesday of every month from 5:30-7 p.m.
  • The VISION Clinic provides ophthalmology services and diabetic eye screenings to patients referred from the SHARING and GOODLIFE clinics on the first Friday of every month from 1-3:30 p.m.

SHARING Clinics provide an excellent opportunity for UNMC faculty to provide one-on-one teaching experiences with students from multiple disciplines and give back to the community they live in.
