When Karoly Mirnics, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute first came to UNMC in 2016, he made a list of every intellectual and developmental disability stakeholder in the state of Nebraska and made a commitment to meet as many as possible.
Dr. Mirnics will fulfill part of that commitment by visiting Fremont, Columbus and Norfolk, Oct. 4-5, along with several leaders from MMI in hopes of learning what stakeholders from those communities are most proud of and if there are any partnership opportunities.
“We want to learn more about the services available to individuals with developmental disabilities and complex health care needs, and if there is anything we can do to enhance those services,” Dr. Mirnics said.
Joining Dr. Mirnics on the trip are:
- Wayne Stuberg, P.T., Ph.D., associate director and professor of pediatrics rehabilitation medicine;
- Keith Allen, Ph.D., director of psychology;
- Cindy Ellis, M.D., director of developmental medicine; and
- Melonie Welsh, director of community engagement
The two-day trip is designed to introduce the programs and services available at MMI to area health care providers and community leaders, through a variety of stops in each community at health clinics, colleges and agencies serving families with developmental disabilities.
