Using your phone to check your work e-mail?

If you’ve updated your iPhone or iPad to the latest operating system (iOS 11), you may have noticed problems getting your Nebraska Medicine or UNMC email to work from the device’s built-in email app.

Apple and Microsoft are aware of the issue and are working to fix it.

Meanwhile, the UNMC/Nebraska Medicine IT department has an even better solution. To quote Apple itself, “There’s an app for that!” Namely, the Outlook app gives users better use of all the features in Outlook 365, such as advanced calendaring, groups, and security features.

“This is true whether you’re using an iPhone or an Android phone,” said Harry Wines, associate director of networking and technical services. “One big advantage is that when Microsoft changes how their email cloud service works, its app changes too. If you’re using the built-in mail app on your phone, you could be out of sync.”

The Outlook app is designed specifically to work with our cloud-based email system and offers additional features not found in the native applications. The Outlook app is the only approved mobile app to accept meeting invites and offers convenient file attachment features.
