Two twitter chats on leadership will be held Wednesday and Thursday, moderated by members of the UNMC Leadership Roundtable.
UNMC faculty, staff and students interested in leadership issues are invited to join either of the Leadership Twitter Chats (#NELeader), which will be held from 8-9 p.m. Wednesday and 8-9 a.m. Thursday.
Moderators include:
- Howard Liu, M.D., assistant vice chancellor for faculty development;
- Linda Love, Ed.D., assistant director of the Office of Faculty Development;
- Brandon Grimm, Ph.D., director of the Office of Public Health Practice; and
- Katie Brandert, director of the Great Plains Leadership Institute.
The event is a collaboration between UNMC entities interested in promoting leadership skills, Dr. Grimm said.
“We will be posing questions about leadership skills, asking things such as ‘What is the best advice you’ve ever received about leadership?'” he said. “UNMC has a number of experts in leadership training, and this forum gives us a chance to showcase that.”
Although all the moderators will approach the topics from different perspectives, he said, “We will all be discussing topics we are passionate about and strategies that we have learned work well.”
“I think that Twitter is a very useful tool for faculty networking and to share our UNMC expertise with colleagues locally and nationally,” Dr. Liu said. “I look forward to hearing from participants about useful leadership experiences and resources that we can build into our curriculum.”
The topics to be discussed aren’t Nebraska-specific, and the group hopes to draw participants from across the nation, Dr. Love said.
“The aim is to engage people on how they keep their leadership skills sharp,” she said. “The Leadership Roundtable talked about several different perspectives. I might talk about lifelong learning, for example, while Katie Brandert might talk about conflict resolution.”
Dr. Love said the event provided an opportunity not only for current leaders to exchange ideas, but also for those interested in moving into leadership positions to see what other leaders are talking about.
