The UNMC Privacy Office has issued the following reminder to all faculty, students, residents and staff with One Chart access:
Patient information, including the hospital census and department census lists, may be accessed only as required for current, work-related reasons. It is not permissible to access patient information out of curiosity or for non-work related reasons.
Nebraska Medicine and UNMC are committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of our patients. The Privacy Office audits One Chart user activity and takes seriously all reports of potential privacy breaches.
Violations of patient privacy may result in corrective action or scholastic action up to and including termination/dismissal and reporting to applicable licensing agencies — in addition to possible fines, civil or criminal penalties under state or federal law.
NOTE: Adding yourself to a patient’s treatment team in One Chart does not make accessing that patient’s chart appropriate.
