Faculty Mentoring Program & Mentoring Award Given

The department is delighted to congratulate an outstanding group of dedicated mentors and mentees for their participation in the new Faculty Mentoring Program 2016-17. This year, 33 faculty members worked together with our newest faculty members’ for the first year of their career here at UNMC. Monthly mentoring meetings are individualized to focus directly on the specific needs of each mentee, and the program is supported by group communications.

We honored the participants at the Mentoring Faculty Recognition Luncheon in late August. Many mentors and mentees, as well as division, department and campus leaders gathered for a lovely midday luncheon and presentation of certificates.

The Department also congratulates Dr. Jill Poole as the first recipient of the Faculty Clinical & Educational Mentoring Award. Dr. Poole is an associate professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep & Allergy and is an active clinician educator while maintaining a highly productive research lab. Her mentee, Dr. Sara May, nominated her for this award, commenting, “We have monthly meetings focused on research in addition to our mentorship meeting for other arenas such as clinical care and education. Her door is always open and every time I enter her office, I receive great advice!”

My sincere congratulations to Jill, along with the thanks of the entire department for her mentoring efforts – positively impacting the newest generation of our colleagues ensures the continued growth and development of the department.
