Re-Imagining U programming begins Thursday

Leah Georges, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the interdisciplinary doctoral program at Creighton University, will lead a session on “The Power of Followership” on Sept. 7 from 9-10:30 a.m. on the UNMC campus.

The program is being provided through Re-Imagining U, the new employee development program shared by UNMC and UNO.

A leadership and social psychology scholar, Dr. Georges conducts research and presents to local and national audiences in the areas of millennial leadership and generational interactions and communication in the workplace, legal decision making, and best practices in graduate education.

In this session, attendees will learn how followership plays an important role in being an effective leader.

September is the first month of Re-Imagining U. Other courses being offered on the UNMC campus this month include:

  • Sept. 11 — Development 101: Developing You, facilitated by Diane Kortus. Identify development opportunities for yourself to intentionally target skill development and close skill gaps, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Sept. 14 — Recognition 101: Creating a Culture of Recognition at UNMC, facilitated by Aileen Warren. Learn how to create a culture of recognition for everyone, 9-10 a.m.
  • Sept. 15 — Trust and Communication 101: Laying the Foundation, facilitated by Diane Kortus. Introduction to “Whole Brain Thinking “as it relates to communication and how to communicate with your whole brain to earn trust in others, 9-10:30 a.m.
  • Sept. 20 — Connecting to Our Values 101, facilitated by Aileen Warren. Immerse yourself in the new UNMC/Nebraska Medicine Values and make them real for your world, 11 a.m.-noon.
  • Sept. 26 — Ethical Leadership, facilitated by the Business Ethics Alliance. Learn how to influence others with ethics and what it means to be an ethical leader, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Sept. 28 — Appreciating Difference, facilitated by Linda Cunningham. Tactics you can use every day to stop stereotyping and judgments while preserving relationships and without disrespecting others, 10-11 a.m.
