Registration is open for a new interdisciplinary and intercampus course designed to immerse University of Nebraska students in global health projects. The course will be offered this fall through UNMC’s College of Public Health.
The course, Doctoral Special Topics: Global Health Seminar (HPRO 998), will be offered Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:10 p.m. at the College of Public Health, and online for distance-mediated learning. Masters’ students can attend with permission.
The course is recommended for graduate students interested in enhanced global health competency related to population health and low-resource settings through the study of effective partnerships and initiatives relating to care.
Martha Goedert, Ph.D., assistant professor of health promotion, social and behavioral health, submitted the course idea in March in response to a call from University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds, Ph.D., for proposals to support the university’s new Strategy for Global Engagement. It is one of five new courses approved by Dr. Bounds.
“The course creates safe opportunities for students to develop sustainable projects that are complementary to projects in targeted countries and respectful of different cultures,” she said.
