Thirty-three thousand, one hundred and eight.
That’s a very large number, and co-workers say it represents only part of the contribution made to the Nebraska Lymphoma Study Group (NLSG) by Frances Taylor-Reis, who retired from her office assistant position in the UNMC Department of Oncology & Hematology on June 29.
That’s the number — 33,108 — of surgical cases with detailed histologic, diagnostic and immunologic data that she entered into the program’s pathology research database since 1986.
“Employee longevity means stability, know-how and likely success for any program,” said Martin Bast, lead coordinator for the NLSG. “You couple this dedication with a polite and dignified personality and life around the workplace is as good as it gets. In the best sense, Frances is not replaceable.”
She also served the UNMC Department of Pediatrics through her compassionate volunteer work as a foster grandparent for the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging from 2010-2014.
An open retirement celebration and cake reception will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 1-2 p.m. in the Purtilo Room, UNMC Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Medical Services Building Room 3514. Remarks will be at 1:15 p.m.
