The UNMC Curriculum Transition Group will host a Training the Physicians of Tomorrow Curriculum Open House at 3 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Sorrell Center Alumni Commons, located on the second floor.
Spanning the past three years, more than 120 faculty have worked on the development of the new curriculum — while still seeing patients, educating students and researching medical breakthroughs.
“These faculty members have put in dawn to dark hours and have scrutinized every aspect of our medical school to create a better learning experience for our current and future students,” said P.J. Arellano, curriculum transition coordinator. “Throughout it all, faculty and staff designed Training the Physicians of Tomorrow with students first in mind.”
She said UNMC faculty created the Training the Physicians of Tomorrow curriculum to produce doctors whose strong foundation in basic, clinical and health systems sciences would prepare them to work collaboratively with other professionals to promote health and reduce suffering for the patients and populations throughout Nebraska and the surrounding region.
In a message to the faculty, Arellano said:
“Your efforts to deliver a world-class medical curriculum, despite your hectic schedules, are greatly appreciated. Though the curriculum will launch in August, the creative processes involved in revamping a four-year medical education program will undoubtedly require your engagement and collaboration in the future. Thank you.”
The schedule for the open house:
- 3:15-3:30 p.m. – Opening remarks by Brad Britigan, M.D., dean of the UNMC College of Medicine
- 3:30-3:35 p.m. – “Training the Physicians of Tomorrow” video
- 3:35-4:30 p.m. – Social hour and refreshments
Kudos to all the faculty who helped in the curriculum redesign. I can only imagine the long hours that were required to make this happen.
