Retirements announced

Sherry Cherek

The UNMC Department of Human Resources has released a list of 14 retirements spanning the period between May 16 and Sept. 1. One of the retirees, Sherry Cherek, College of Public Health, led the way with 44 years of service. Four other employees — Joanne Watkins, Donald Johnson, Ph.D., Marian Marchand, and William Chaney, Ph.D. — had more than 30 years of service.

Here’s the complete list of retirements provided by the UNMC Department of Human Resources:

  • Sherry Cherek, College of Public Health Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health, retired June 3 (start date Aug. 21, 1972)
  • Joanne Watkins, HR Benefits, retired June 3 (start date Sept. 16, 1974)
  • Donald Johnson, Ph.D., pathology/microbiology, will retire July 1 (start date July 10, 1981)
  • Marian Marchand, College of Nursing-Student Services, retired June 9 (start date Aug. 20, 1981)
  • William Chaney, Ph.D., biochemistry and molecular biology, retired May 20 (start date April 1, 1987)
  • Gerri Siford, surgery-general surgery, will retire June 24 (start date Nov. 25, 1988)
  • Shirley Tachenko Achord, College of Nursing-Lincoln Division, will retire Sept. 1 (start date Aug. 19, 1991)
  • Elizabeth Lempka, College of Dentistry-adult restorative, retired June 1 (start date May 13, 1992)
  • Robert Dixon, D.V.M., comparative medicine, will retire July 1 (start date Sept. 11, 1992)
  • Roxanna Jokela, alumni relations, retired May 16 (start date April 12, 1993)
  • Kathleen Duncan, Ph.D., College of Nursing-Lincoln Division, will retire Sept. 1 (start date July 1, 1999)
  • Karen Schumacher, Ph.D., College of Nursing-Omaha Division, will retire July 1 (start date Nov. 1, 2004)
  • Frances Taylor-Reis, internal medicine-oncology/hematology, will retire July 1 (start date May 7, 2008)
  • Barbara Fletcher, Ph.D., College of Nursing-Omaha Division, will retire July 1 (start date Aug. 15, 2007)

    Thank you all for the service you have provided to UNMC. Especially for me thank you to John Larson who along with his wife Christine Larson will retire at the end of July with 45 and 29 years respectively. As a newer employee John has been an unreplacable resource.
