As the end of summer nears, UNMC and Nebraska Medicine will be fielding teams for two community events, the Corporate Cycling Challenge on Aug. 20, and the Corporate Cup on Sept. 10.
The Corporate Cycling Challenge, Aug. 20
This event is a bike tour with distances of 10, 25 or 42 miles, so cyclists of all abilities can ride. (The Gran Fondo does offer a timed bike ride on the 42-mile Tour de Fort route.) Teams get one point for every mile that an employee rides. Employee family miles count half toward our corporate team point total. The UNMC/Nebraska Medicine team won in 2016 and will try to repeat in 2017.
Register by July 17 to be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card provided by Metro Credit Union. Med center riders also earn opportunities to win a $100 gift card. The deadline to order a T-shirt through registration also is July 17. Registration is free for employees and $5 for family members without purchasing a shirt. For more information, contact Peter Pellerito at 402-559-5253.
The event benefits the Eastern Nebraska Trails Network and supports trail development in the Omaha area.
The Corporate Cup, Sept. 10
The Fight For Air Corporate Cup team for Nebraska Medicine/UNMC will compete on Sept. 10 for bragging rights – as the fastest team and top fundraising corporate team — at this longstanding Omaha event.
The event is a two-mile walk/run or 10K race. The organizational goal is to raise a minimum of $500 for the American Lung Association. Participants do not have to fundraise, but those who raise $100 by Sept. 6 will receive a dri-fit T-shirt. Colleagues who commit to raising either $1,000 or $500 by Sept. 6 will be “lung champions,” with benefits that include a long-sleeve dri-fit shirt, official dri-fit T-shirt, coffee mug, VIP parking space on race day, access to event-day VIP hospitality tent and more.
To register, go to the Nebraska Medicine/UNMC Team Page. Registration is $35 in July and August and will increase to $45 in September.
