Former Vice President Joe Biden with Nebraska Medicine’s Carol Kindig

“It’s been the best day ever.”

That’s how Sally Schumacher, medical laboratory scientist in Nebraska Medicine’s molecular diagnostics department, described Tuesday.

She and her fellow colleagues were standing outside the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center as former Vice President Joe Biden was leaving the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“I shouted ‘I love you, Joe!’,” said Schumacher. “They asked me what I was going to do when he came out, and I said ‘I’m going to scream ‘I love you, Joe!'”

Biden came over and gave the ladies a hug.

“And a kiss on the cheek,” added Teri Shepherd, medical laboratory scientist in molecular diagnostics.

After chatting with them for about 20 minutes, Biden called the mother of Krysten Knott, medical laboratory scientist in molecular diagnostics, before leaving to catch his flight.

“My mom loves him,” said Knott. “She was thrilled.”
