Etherton ACOS for Patient Safety for VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care

Please congratulate Dr. Gale Etherton on her new position as the Associate Chief of Staff for Patient Safety for VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System

Dr. Etherton has worked in four VA hospitals beginning in 1991 as a trainee, and since 1999 worked as a staff physician. Among her accomplishments in VA, she completed advanced training in "Health Care Delivery Improvement" in 2009 and has since worked on numerous Quality Improvement and Patient Safety initiatives across NWIHCS.

In 2012 she became the Chief of Health Informatics at NWIHCS and has continued to work with the Health Informatics team to improve the efficiencies of the electronic medical record and establish a CPRS training program. Dr. Etherton also serves on the Institutional Review Board for NWIHCS ensuring submitted protocols meet the definition of research or quality improvement.

Dr. Etherton is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and has a courtesy appointment at Creighton University Medical School, department of Internal Medicine. She has been the course director at UNMC for teaching quality improvement and patient safety to the graduating medical students for the past three years.  Dr. Etherton also provides resident oversight in the Omaha Same-Day Access Clinic and rounds on the inpatient medicine service.
