Faculty Development

Shannon Boerner, MD, director, Faculty Mentoring & Development

As we near the end of another academic year, I'd like to thank those faculty who participated in our local Faculty Development sessions – in February, the Department hosted "Evaluation Preparation 101", led by myself, Dr. Andrea Zimmer, and Dr. Scott Westphal. This session was focused on the logistics of navigating ADIS as well as the broader importance of focused goal-setting and using evaluation time effectively. In April, we presented a session on "Billing and Quality Measures," with representation from our billers and coders, as well as a presentation from Dr. Tanvir Hussain, Medical Director of Quality and Analytics for Nebraska Medicine. My sincere thanks to all who attended and especially to Drs. Hussain, Westphal, and Zimmer for presenting to our Department faculty.

The Faculty Development Task Force developed a new award for the Department this year! We will be honoring another successful year of mentoring relationships at the annual Faculty Mentoring Luncheon in August 2017, and will award the Clinical & Educational Mentoring Award at that time. Thanks to all who submitted nominations; many deserving individuals were nominated, demonstrating the commitment to mentorship across the Department.

The Faculty Development Task Force continues to meet monthly and focus on the needs of all faculty across the Department. This group is formalizing our approach to the upcoming years and engaging in a process of goal setting, to ensure we target our efforts to specific objectives. We are dedicated to defining your needs and building programming to meet them most directly – watch for upcoming communications, more to come soon!
