Ophthalmologist Donny Suh, M.D., will discuss technological advances in eye surgeries for 2017 and beyond at the next Omaha Science Café at 7 p.m. on May 2 at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.
Dr. Suh, M.D., is the chief of ophthalmology service at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center and an associate professor at the Truhlsen Eye Institute, in the departments of ophthalmology and visual sciences and pediatrics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
He completed his pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship at The Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; his ophthalmology residency at The Eye Institute at the Medical College of Wisconsin; and received his medical doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Suh has been an active volunteer with ORBIS medical mission programs and has traveled to South America, Europe, Asia and Africa to provide medical and surgical services as well as to teach the local ophthalmologists.
He is actively involved with research with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigation Group, which is sponsored by the National Eye Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health. He is an ophthalmology executive committee member for the American Academy of Pediatrics and has been voted a “Best Doctor in America” and “America’s Top Ophthalmologist” since 2003.
Science Cafés involve a face-to-face conversation with a scientist about current science topics. They are open to everyone (21 and older) and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses. Each meeting is organized around an interesting topic of conversation. A scientist gives a brief presentation followed by a Q-and-A period.
