Sixty-five members of the UNMC High School Alliance are among the students taking classes at UNMC this academic year.
The students come from high schools around Omaha and take college-level classes to prepare for health careers.
Today we meet:
- Name: Mitchell White
- High school: Platteview Senior High School. I am the first student from my high school to participate in the UNMC High School Alliance.
- Year: Junior
How did you learn about the UNMC High School Alliance?
A friend of mine told me about the infectious diseases course that the High School Alliance offered, and I became interested in the program.
What sparked your interest in science?
Taking a basic first aid course sparked my interest in medicine, and science has always been an interest of mine. Learning about the human body, and all the secrets it hides is amazing.
What are your career aspirations?
I have always been interested in how the eye works, so becoming an ophthalmologist is what I currently aspire to become.
List your three favorite things about the UNMC High School Alliance experience so far:
- The amazing opportunity I have had being able to network with medical health professionals.
- The hands-on approach to medicine, and the fields you could go into.
- The labs activities associated with the classes that are offered, such as the labs done in infectious diseases class.
I LOVE YOU MITCHELL WHITE!
Mitchell White is just the best human ever. I love how ambitious he is and how he doesn't ever let anything stand in his way. What ever Mitchell sets his beautiful mind to, he can and will accomplish. Keep on dreaming and reaching for the stars Mitchell, you have so much potential.
