The newly formed International Student Association at UNMC will host the Holi Festival of Colors from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 23 on the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza green space on the north side of the Sorrell Center.
Holi is a Hindu spring festival, celebrated in India and becoming popular internationally. It symbolizes rejuvenation and optimism and also is known as the “Festival of Colors” or “Festival of Love.”
It celebrates the arrival of spring after winter and signifies the victory of good over evil. For many, it is a festive day to meet others, play, laugh, forgive and forget, and repair broken relationships.
The April 23 event will include Indian snacks, Bollywood music and the traditional color toss as a way to wash away the gloom of winter. The first color throw will be at 2:15 p.m.
A raffle will be held with proceeds supporting the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Tickets are $2.
A rain date is scheduled for April 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
