UNMC’s Nebraska Science Festival invites the public to attend a free panel discussion featuring women successful in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers.
“Women in Science” will be held on April 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at MCC at Do Space, 7205 Dodge Street, Omaha. Panelists will share their life experiences, as well as lessons learned, as they inspire others to consider STEM careers.
Panelists are:
- Francesqca Jimenez, a researcher at HDR Architecture;
- Jessica Maxwell, M.D., assistant professor, department of surgery, division of surgical oncology, UNMC;
- Rebecca Stavick, executive director of Do Space; and
- Nancy Williams, co-founder, president/CEO of No More Empty Pots.
Women in STEM jobs earn 33 percent more than those in non-STEM occupations and experience a smaller wage gap relative to men. STEM careers also offer women the opportunity to engage in some of the most exciting realms of discovery and technological innovation.
Presented by UNMC, the Nebraska Science Festival is a collaboration of organizations and individuals interested in the advancement of science literacy. This year’s festival runs from April 20-29 with a variety of science-related activities for all ages.
