Retirement reception for Pat Araujo

Pat Araujo

An informal retirement reception will be held for Pat Araujo on Thursday from 1:30-3 p.m. in the Business Service Center, Room 3037.

Araujo is retiring after 45 years at UNMC, all of which she has worked in Information Technology Services.

She reminisced about physically working in the basement of Conkling Hall, which is now where the Lied Transplant Center is located, how the IBM mainframe took up nearly the entire basement and the keypunch days.

“How things have changed,” she said.

“Pat has been a dedicated and reliable employee for many years,” said Sharon Welna, information security officer. “Her extensive knowledge of IT account provisioning processes is not replicable. If we only had a ‘backup’ of all her knowledge.”

“Pat’s fun-loving and kind spirit will definitely be missed,” said Kim Strohbehn, IT business operations administrator.

Retirement plans include travel, with upcoming trips planned to Washington D.C., and California, spending time with her 91-year-old mother and volunteering.

As I grew up and got the opportunity to go see my parents at work, I was often more excited to see Pat than I was to see my parents. I knew there would always be a little sweet treat and a big hug waiting for me every time I saw her. While I may not be as excited for the piece of candy, I still love getting the warm hug every time I see her some 20 years later. I'll miss seeing you when I go visit my parents, but will always be excited to see you and get the infamous hug. Enjoy Retirement Pat!

I will always remember Pat's enthusiasm for the College World Series. She was part of a tradition that started in our family. Over the years, once in a while she would let us use her seats, and I would take Jason. As the family grew, we started going as a Father's Day event.
Now every year, we take the kids and their friends. It's something we look forward to every year. Enjoy the retirement Pat, and maybe we'll see you at a CWS game!!!! We'll miss you!
