On Friday, 123 fourth-year medical students will participate in Match Day. Next to graduation, Match Day is one of the most exciting and anxious moments in a medical student’s life.

At 11 a.m. on Friday, UNMC medical students and medical students from across the U.S. will find out where they will do their residency training — a period of three to six years of training depending on their chosen medical specialty.

The ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. with opening remarks from UNMC College of Medicine Dean Brad Britigan, M.D., Gerald Moore, M.D., College of Medicine senior associate dean for academic affairs, and Jose Morales, 2017 medical school class president.

Among those participating will be Katie Irby, Daniel Kuehler and James Trenhaile. The three have gone to the same schools since sixth grade in Columbus, Neb. They attended Columbus Middle School, Columbus High School, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and UNMC.

The event will be streamed live at http://www.unmc.edu/livevideo/unmc_live1.html. Students can share their photos and messages on Twitter at #UNMCMatch17.
