COM student of the month — meet Brian Coburn

Editor’s Note: Each month, InterCOM will highlight a "Student of the Month" from the College of Medicine. Students will be featured for their participation in activities outside of medical school and for making a difference in the community. The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying.

Staying Balanced:

I love trying out new ways to be active. During the fall, I started learning how to rock climb. More recently, I have spent a month doing spin classes and running stairs to prepare for the Trek up the Tower race in the First National Bank building. When I can get away from Omaha, I enjoy hiking in national parks and skiing in the Rockies. When I need to slow down, I like playing board games and trying out new restaurants around Omaha with friends. Two recent restaurant favorites are Saigon Bowl and Freshii.

Three things people don't know about me:

I went bungee jumping off the same 720-foot high dam as James Bond in Golden Eye 007.

I once spent a week trying to right the wrong of offensive bias in Heisman Trophy voting by campaigning for Ndamukong Suh to win the award.

In middle school, I would listen to my Bon Jovi Crush CD every night before going to bed.
