BHECN holds sixth annual mentorship dinner
The Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN) hosted its sixth annual mentorship dinner at Joslyn Castle on Jan. 25, bringing together 100 students, trainees, providers, educators and advocates to network, mentor and make connections. Behavioral health students and professionals representing counseling, social work, psychiatry, psychology, nursing, physician assistant programs and more participated, along with students from the High School Alliance program at UNMC. Registration closes March 31 for event for brain cancer patients and caregivers
Registration closes March 31 for “Grey Matters: Together with Courage, ” an event for brain cancer patients and their caregivers that will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 7 at the Sorrell Center on the UNMC campus.
Event topics include:
- The latest in treatment options;
- clinical trials;
- emotional impact of cancer;
- caregiving;
- nutrition; and
- panel Q&A.

College of Nursing students named to State Student Nurses Association Board
Six UNMC College of Nursing students were appointed to the Nebraska State Student Nurses Association Board at the annual NSSNA conference on Feb. 18.
They are:
- Rebekah Mallory, president;
- Alexa Longoria, second vice president;
- Rebecca Volf, treasurer;
- Lindsay Pfankuch, Breakthrough to Nursing chair;
- Rylee Schnell, communications editor, all from the UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division; and
- Allison Hansen, secretary, from the UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division.
Niesha Ginn, a student at the West Nebraska Division, received the Outstanding Board Member of the Year award for 2016-2017.
Afghanistan ambassador to speak following discussion on countries, cultures of South Asia
The University of Nebraska will convene an open discussion for faculty, staff and graduate students across its four campuses who have interest in the countries and cultures of South Asia on March 13 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Milo Bail Student Center, University of Nebraska at Omaha campus, 6203 University Drive South.
The meeting is intended to enable participants to develop contacts with NU counterparts who have language abilities or regional expertise for the countries of South Asia, broadly defined as, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Immediately following this discussion, a public presentation will be given by His Excellency Dr. Hamdullah Mohib, ambassador of Afghanistan to the United States. Then a luncheon for those attending the Discussion on South Asia will be held following the Ambassador’s presentation.
