Research/professional interests:
Viral hemorrhagic fevers, biological weapon defense, protection of laboratory workers in containment, care for patients infected with highly hazardous pathogens in biocontainment, tropical and travel medicine.
How I fell in love with the fields of tropical medicine, infectious diseases, and biodefense:
I always loved the idea of travel to exotic foreign lands. This was solidified during my training at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, where we frequently dealt with ill travelers from Southeast Asia. My time in the military pulled me into a lot of exciting work with infectious diseases and my assignment to Fort Detrick solidified my interest in biodefense.
