Dr. Khan to speak during ‘Mind Your Mind Week’

Activities for the Psychiatry Interest Group’s “Mind Your Mind Week,” the student mental health awareness week, continue today with a presentation by Brent Khan, Ed.D., associate director of the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska and special assistant professor of psychiatry for UNMC.

There will be activities throughout the remainder of the week to raise awareness of mental health on campus.

Today:

  • Dr. Khan will present a lecture on resiliency and relaxation techniques at noon in the Sorrell Center, Room 2014. Lunch will be provided, and there will be an opportunity to sign up for free massages.
  • Movie Night: The Psychiatry Interest Group will be screening “Lars and the Real Girl at 5:30 p.m. in the Sorrell Center, Room 2014, followed by a short discussion of the film with Soonjo Hwang, M.D., assistant professor, psychiatry. Pizza will be provided.

Thursday:

  • Pet therapy in the Sorrell Center second-floor atrium at noon.
  • Ten-minute massages in the Sorrell Center second-floor atrium from noon to 2 p.m. for those who signed up at the lunches earlier in the week.

Friday:

  • Ten-minute massages in the Sorrell Center second-floor atrium from noon to 2 p.m. for those who signed up at the lunches earlier in the week.

Saturday:

  • Instructor Christina Roberts will host a free spin class (“psycling”) for UNMC students at 3 p.m. at Lotus House of Yoga, 6706 Frances St. in Aksarben Village.
