Dr. Dering-Anderson to present at Spain conference
The UNMC College of Pharmacy is introducing the concept of its point-of-care testing program for community pharmacies to Europe. Ally Dering-Anderson, Pharm.D., clinical assistant professor of pharmacy practice is organizing a debate table at Infarma Barcelona 2017 European Pharmacies Conference. She’ll share the table with Darragh O’Loughlin, a pharmacist and pharmacy owner, and general secretary of the Irish Pharmacy Union, which represents Ireland’s community pharmacists. They will present and facilitate a conversation on “pharmacy services and experiences overseas.”

PT student Straube wins prestigious scholarship
Physical therapy student Jamie Straube was one of 12 students nationally to earn Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions Scholarships of Excellence. The awards go to students deemed to have significant potential to assume future leadership roles in allied health.

Kellie Harry named assistant general counsel at Mutual of Omaha
Kellie Harry, a member of the UNMC Board of Counselors, has been named assistant general counsel for Mutual of Omaha. Harry, who has been with Mutual of Omaha since 2008, will be responsible for lawsuits filed by or against the company as well as advising on preventive measures to address litigation risk.

Dr. Hultquist named CON director of evaluation
Teresa Barry Hultquist, Ph.D., associate professor in the College of Nursing, has been appointed director of evaluation for the College of Nursing after having served in an interim capacity.

“Dr. Hultquist possesses extremely strong skills in evaluation and academic quality improvement,” said College of Nursing Dean Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D. “Her enthusiasm and can-do attitude enhance her leadership effectiveness with continuous quality improvement.”

Dr. Hultquist represents the College of Nursing on the UNMC Assessment Committee. She led the development of the College’s Evaluation and Effectiveness Committee and serves as an evaluator for the College of Nursing’s specialty accreditor, the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education.

Dr. Hultquist was named the Nebraska March of Dimes Nurse of the Year in 2010, and she received the College of Nursing’s Donna Westmoreland Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award in 2012. In 2014, she received the college’s Virginia Tilden Leadership Award.

Research community contributes to Food Bank
For the third consecutive year, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and all of its research departments collected monetary, canned and boxed items for the Food Bank of the Heartland. This year’s monetary collections totaled $524 (which equals 1,572 meals or three meals for every dollar donated), and the canned and boxed items totaled 448 pounds.
