Nebraska Medicine and UNMC will hold a Health Equity Conference on Jan. 25.
The conference’s goal is to develop a shared mental model about health equity, identify opportunities to ensure equitable care for patients and reflect upon the role that individuals and teams have in providing equitable care to the patients and populations served at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine.
Anthony Iton, M.D., J.D., will speak at the event. Dr. Iton is senior vice president of Healthy Communities of The California Endowment, California’s largest, private health foundation.
The conference will explore the definition of health equity, as well as how it involves health care professionals and, ultimately, patients. The conference will explore how patients perceive the way in which Nebraska Medicine and UNMC deliver care.
The Office of Health Professions Education invites all Nebraska and UNMC colleagues to attend the event to become informed about health equity and begin a larger institutional strategy.
“To demonstrate that we care about our learners, we’ve scheduled this event on our campus, with an engaging national speaker, and in a time frame to be respectful of participants’ busy schedules,” said Kelly Caverzagie, M.D., associate dean of educational strategy at UNMC and vice president of education at Nebraska Medicine. “Following the symposium, our commitment to excellence in education will include continued communication about opportunities to get involved, share ideas, implement projects and celebrate successes.”
