The Rural Futures Institute (RFI) at the University of Nebraska is now accepting applications for 2017 RFI Competitive Awards.
Since 2013, these awards have fostered important discoveries and opportunities for rural people and places, and RFI is looking for the next bold, innovative and transdisciplinary research and teaching ideas. There are two types of awards: Teaching & Engagement and Research & Engagement.
Teaching & Engagement Awards
Submission deadline: March 1
These awards foster faculty-led community engagement and service learning. Community engagement and service learning methods of teaching develop a structure that forms partnerships between faculty and community agencies/programs and encourages college student involvement in providing services to meet the community’s needs.

Research & Engagement Awards
Submission deadline: March 15
These awards develop research and engagement that addresses critical challenges and opportunities facing rural Nebraska and the Great Plains. The projects function as “seed grants” and lay the foundation for larger requests to funding sources external to the University of Nebraska.

The projects also stimulate important partnerships and connections, allowing faculty and RFI to expand its networks of expertise on behalf of rural communities. RFI encourages collaboration across disciplines, campuses, fields, organizations and institutions. If assistance is needed in identifying potential partners for a project or if you have questions, please contact Kim Peterson, (402) 472-9287.
