A “Mamava,” a portable suite allowing women a private place to breastfeed their baby or to express milk, has been installed in the Durham Outpatient Center (DOC) lobby, underneath the escalators.
The Mamava is open to both the public and UNMC/Nebraska Medicine colleagues. It requires a key to access. The information desk in the DOC will unlock the Mamava to any woman who asks during business hours. Security also can unlock it, especially after hours. Security can be reached at 402-559-5111.
Renovation is complete on a new space on level four of Wittson Hall, as well. Work also is under way on a space with two seats on level three of Wittson Hall. The level three unit will have a Medela Symphony pump installed by end of year. Both rooms are expected to be ready for use this month.
The newly opened Laurtizen Outpatient Center has a two-seat lactation space on level three.
Despite the closing of level four of Clarkson Tower, the lactation rooms are still available for use there.
Find a current list of lactation rooms here. For more information about the work to create additional lactation rooms, contact Christin McDermott at 402-559-5852.
Thanks Christin! Good job!
