Bill Lawlor, assistant vice chancellor for business and finance |
Lawlor, who has been with UNMC for 11 years, has served as the controller in the business and finance office. In that role, he oversaw financial compliance, general accounting, sponsored programs accounting, bond financing, payoll, and other financial activities. In his new role, he also will oversee risk management, procurement and materials management, real estate acquisition and rental management, and the controller’s office, all campus business operations and other duties.
He also will assist Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance Deb Thomas and UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold. M.D.
“Part of my job is bringing together a lot of diverse groups to help improve UNMC and to ensure that financially we can continue to support all the areas of our mission,” he said. “Compliance is really important — fiscal responsibility, stewardship.”
A lot of it, he said, is “just trying to help UNMC grow and fulfill our mission.”
After all, he loves it here.
“I love everything about UNMC,” Lawlor said. I love the mission and the openness and transparency. I’ve been very active in research in the past 11 years in my role here, with federal grants and contracts, to help ensure we are financially compliant, so that we can continue to grow all of our research funding.”
Thomas called Lawlor an invaluable member of the business and finance team.
“For more than a decade, Bill has been an important part of the team here at UNMC,” she said. “His depth of knowledge, professional ability and demonstrated leadership capability made him an obvious choice for this new role, which offers him greater responsibility and gives the business and finance department a proven and respected leader.”

Bill, congratulations on your new appointment. You are very talented and UNMC is fortunate in your being part of the family now and going forward in your new role.
Bill is a tremendous asset to the medical center. This is well-deserved, for sure. And, best of all, there may not be a nicer individual on campus. Way to go, Bill!
