On Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., volunteers will be tying blankets as part of the Blanket Project, and the campus community is invited to turn out to help in the effort. The event will take place at the Center for Nursing Science Atrium on UNMC’s Omaha campus.
Students, faculty and staff from UNMC, the College of St. Mary, the Omaha Police Department and other community partners will put together fleece blankets for children, adults, families in crisis and refugee and immigrant populations in the Omaha area. The blankets will be donated to groups such as Ronald McDonald House, the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, Embrace the Nation, Project Harmony, homeless shelters and other community groups.
Participants will help cut, tie and assemble colorful fleece into blankets for children and adults. This year, the goal is to make and distribute more than 245 blankets. Last year, more than 215 blankets were delivered to locations around the Omaha area.
All members of the UNMC community are invited to come out to participate in the event.
What a wonderful project, I hope you could look into the group called, YES, Youth Emergency Services. The director spoke at my Optimist club, I know they could use blankets, especially for the maternity group in Bellevue. Thank you for spearheading this event. Judy Andresen 9-2902
