What sparked your interest in public health?

I initially became interested in public health when I was a student leader in EMPOWER, a UNMC student-led group. EMPOWER’s focus was increasing awareness and providing opportunities for future health care professionals to become involved in efforts to minimize domestic and sexual violence in our community and beyond. I was intrigued in how the public health field focuses on the upstream factors to prevent health care problems. We all play a part in making health care more efficient, affordable and safe for patients and their families.
