Dr. Gold: ‘We are committed to our mission’

UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., sent an email message to the university’s faculty, staff and students on Monday.

In the message, Dr. Gold told members of the UNMC community:

“As you know, our mission is to lead the world in transforming lives for a healthier future for all of the individuals and communities that we serve. Over the past few years, UNMC has been intensely focused on promoting the well-being of every member within our campus community. In light of the recently announced state fiscal challenges and the leadership changes that will result from the recent elections, we recognize there may be a heightened sense of uncertainty and concern as to what these changes may mean to our community and for the communities, worldwide, that we are honored to serve.

“As an organization, however, we are committed to our mission and our core values. We are committed to protecting the academic enterprise and creating a safe, secure and respectful environment for everyone regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender or religious background. This period of uncertainty does not change UNMC’s values, and we will continue to actively promote an atmosphere of inclusivity, mutual respect and safety for everyone.

“We have had the opportunity to work closely with our leadership teams, and are as dedicated and committed as ever to our growth, our quality and to the core principles of our stated mission and vision. Together, as a Med Center family, we are truly stronger.

“In addition, two student forums will be held on Nov. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 6 p.m. to allow students to ask questions, share concerns and learn more about available resources that promote well-being. The forums, focused toward our students, will be live-streamed to each UNMC campus; more information on locations and web connectivity will be forthcoming.

“As a community of health professionals, we will continue to live our mission to transform lives to create a healthy future. That includes providing the support necessary to one another during this period of change. I want to thank each of you for all you do for UNMC and look forward to working together to further strengthen our community.”
