Longtime UNMC ITS employee Dan VerMehren died Oct. 31 at the age of 61.
VanMehren worked in ITS at UNMC for 26 years, said Joel Hovdenes, associate director, data center operations and customer support services.
“He was a dedicated and reliable employee who worked as a computer operator on the midnight to 8 a.m. shift,” he said. “Dan was an Omaha native and enjoyed watching football and boxing on TV, and listening to all types of music. A tall man, with few words, colleagues often referred to him as ‘Big Dan.'”

Dan will be missed, He always was kind and helpful. We usually passed each other in the morning when he was leaving and I was arriving for work. He would always stop and say "Hi".
