Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:
- Name: Amy (Fellhoelter) Frizzell
- Hometown: Broadwater, Neb.
- No. of years at UNMC: 15 months
Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I am the student services coordinator for the College of Nursing – Lincoln Division. Every day is a new adventure, and no two days are the same. I advise prospective students on the requirements of the college and how to apply to the program. Once students are accepted to the college, I assist in their transition to nursing school, collaborate with faculty and staff to promote a positive learning environment, and serve as the students’ main point-of-contact through graduation.
Courage is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group at UNMC exhibit this value.
I enjoy learning about students’ life experiences and how their path has led them to nursing. One student, in particular, has shown so much courage in the short time I have known them. From academics to their family, they give everything their all, and they are extremely grateful to be at UNMC. Their perseverance and dedication show courage each and every day, and I am thankful that I get to witness their time in nursing school, as they are one of the most humble and thoughtful individuals I have ever had the privilege of knowing.
What is your favorite fall activity?
Although it is not a reoccurring fall activity, my husband and I will be going to Hawaii for two weeks in November. We have been planning this trip for over a year and will spend time snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, and hiking a volcano.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I have been with the university system for over five years. Before UNMC, I worked for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln housing and the William H. Thompson Scholars Learning Community.
- I have three siblings, and, at one time or another during our educational careers, we have all attended UNL. It has become a family tradition even though our family is originally from Kansas.
- My husband, Alan, is from New Hampshire and introduced me to the ocean in 2014 when we got engaged. We now try to visit whenever we are home visiting family!
