Med center shows support at Race for the Cure

More than 80 Nebraska Medicine and UNMC colleagues and their families joined the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center team in support of Komen Nebraska’s Race for the Cure held this past Sunday at Baxter Arena. The event had more than 8,500 registered walkers/runners.

In 2016, Nebraska Medicine increased its sponsorship level. The larger display space provided multiple opportunities for survivors and their families to interact with Nebraska Medicine.

“Making Memories” featured the opportunity for race attendees to stop by for a Polaroid photo along with an option for a digital photo that had a real-time feed into the Nebraska Medicine Instagram account.

A “#SpreadGoodness video” station — in partnership with Ashli Brehm, breast cancer survivor and Nebraska Medicine patient — brought a series of survivors, their families and volunteers together to create a “power of goodness” video, which can be seen here.

“Capturing the Human Spirit” gave race attendees the chance to be a part of capturing the day in the form of artistic visuals.

The Nebraska Medicine/UNMC team had volunteers from all over the organization helping during the event, including volunteer services, talent acquisition, clinical leaders, nurses, staff, marketing, outreach and community relations, and other areas. It was a day filled with community engagement and meaningful time with patients.
