Nominations are now being accepted for the inaugural Impact in Education Awards.
The seven awards, created by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs with strong support from UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., recognize the dedication and ingenuity of UNMC educators. Award categories include innovation, leadership, mentorship, service, interprofessional and research.
Nominations close at 5 p.m. on Oct. 14. The awards ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2017, in the Durham Research Center Auditorium.
“The Impact in Education Awards have been developed in consultation with multiple faculty stakeholders and leaders to recognize the excellent contributions of faculty at UNMC to our educational mission,” said Dele Davies, M.D., vice chancellor for academic affairs. “As UNMC strives to lead the world in instructing and mentoring health science students at all levels, we believe that recognizing faculty who are making a difference in this area is critical.”
The honors, which include cash awards for professional development, include:
- Educator Laureate;
- Innovative Practices in Education;
- Visionary Leadership in Education;
- Inspirational Mentor of Educators;
- Valor in Educational Service;
- Interprofessional Education Scholar; and
- Research in Education Scholar.
Dr. Davies said the new awards are a key part of several programs that recently have been launched to continue to improve the quality of instruction for UNMC students through professional development of UNMC faculty. Among these key developments are:
- The Interprofessional Academy of Educators;
- The Office of Faculty Mentorship;
- The E-Learning Program; and
- New Masters and Certificate Programs in Health Science Teaching and Technology (pending approval of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents).
“We also are looking forward to the tremendous experiential educational opportunities that will be created upon completion of the Global Center for Advanced Interprofessional Learning that will house iEXCEL,” Dr. Davies said.
