Nate Anderson, MD
Nate Anderson, MD, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine joins the faculty as a general internist and hospitalist. Dr. Anderson earned his medical degree and completed his internal medicine residency at UNMC, as well as being a chief resident at UNMC. Dr. Anderson has research interests in novel technologies in clinical practice, improving patient safety and quality improvement.
Muhammad Ashraf, MBBS
Muhammad Ashraf, MBBS,, associate professor, Division of Infectious Diseases, received his medical degree from the Dow Medical College in Pakistan and trained in Internal Medicine at Columbia University in New York. He was chief resident at Northeastern Ohio University in Akron, he completed a fellowship in geriatrics at North-Shore Island in New York, and trained in ID at East Carolina University. He is coming to us from the Brody School of Medicine/East Carolina School of Medicine where he has been a faculty member for the past five years. Dr. Ashraf is board certified in ID and Geriatrics and his prime responsibility at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine will be to lead the CDC-funded ICAP. “He is a terrific match for our efforts to expand infection control and antibiotic stewardship interventions into long term care facilities and critical access hospitals throughout the state,” division chief, Dr. Mark Rupp said. Muhammad will have some inpatient General ID service responsibilities, as well as outpatient clinic in the Durham Outpatient Center.
Muhamed Baljevic, MD
Muhamed Baljevic, MD Hons Research, assistant professor, Division of Oncology/Hematology received his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. He completed his residency at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. Dr. Baljevic has research interests in myeloma, plasma cell disorders, proteasome inhibitor resistance, acute leukemias and bone marrow transplantation.
Brady Bulian, DO
Brady Bulian, DO, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine completed his degree at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Dr. Bulian is a hospitalist who will attend on the “Loomis Service.” He has research interests in high-value care.
Jodi Cantrell, MD
Jodi Cantrell, MD, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine and Pediatrics received her medical degree at UNMC and recently completed her Med/Peds Residency here as well. Dr. Cantrell specializes in hospital medicine. She is an attending hospitalist on the general medicine and pediatric teams at UNMC.
Stephanie Hartman, MD
Stephanie Hartman, MD, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine received her medical degree at UNMC and completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Creighton University Medical Center. She comes back to UNMC from her previous position as the Women’s Health Medical Director for the Nebraska Western Iowa Healthcare System. Her professional interests are in women’s health. She will be part- time clinical faculty in the Olson Center for Women’s Health.
Daniel Hershberger, MD
Daniel Hershberger, MD, assistant professor, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Allergy completed his medical degree and Internal Medicine Residency at UNMC. He completed a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Creighton University Medical Center. Dr. Hershberger will provide inpatient care in the ICU and the pulmonary service, as well as outpatient care in the pulmonary clinic. His clinic will be on Tuesday afternoon in Durham Outpatient Center.
Rachel Johnson, MD
Rachel Johnson, MD, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine received her medical degree at UNMC and completed an Internal Medicine Residency/Pediatric Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Dr. Johnson comes back to UNMC after her position as Internal Medicine/ Pediatric staff physician for Community Physicians, division of MCW and Froedtert Health. She will see outpatient internal medicine/pediatric patients at Baker Place Clinic and will also serve as a hospitalist for the UNMC newborn nursery for week long intervals. Dr. Johnson’s clinic hours are 8-5 Monday, 12-5 Wednesday and 8-5 Thursday. She has professional interests in integrative medicine, obesity management and prevention and transitional care for patients with pediatric onset disease processes.
Kelsey Klute, MD
Kelsey Klute, MD, assistant professor, Division of Oncology/Hematology completed her medical degree at the University of North Dakota – School of Medicine and Health Science, an Internal Medicine Residency at Washington University /Barnes Jewish Hospital and a Gastrointestinal Oncology Fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College and New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York. Dr. Klute also completed an NIH K30 Clinical Research Methodology Certificate Course at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Klute’s professional interests are in improving chemotherapy tolerability, cancer cacherxia and clinical trials.
Sarah Malik, MBB
Sarah Malik, MBBS, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine, completed her medical degree at the Khyber Medical College in Pakistan. She completed Internal Medicine Residency at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Her areas of research interests include internal medicine and gastroenterology – blood pressure variability in veteran population and adherence to antihypertensive medications, recognition and management of neuroglycopenia after bariatric surgery and colonoscopic polyp detection and follow-up accuracy.
Kara Markin, MD
Kara Markin, MD, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine, completed her medical degree and residency in Internal Medicine at UNMC. Dr. Markin will see patients at Village Pointe in half-day clinics every day of the week, as well as serve as an attending physician on inpatient service. Dr. Markin has research interests in women’s health. She is a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians.
Abdulrahman Morad, MD
Abdulrahman Morad, MD, assistant professor, Division of Cardiology, received his medical degree from the University of Damascus. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, a Cardiology Fellowship at Lankenau Heart Institute in Philadelphia, and Cardiac CTA and Cardiac MRI Training at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Morad will conduct cardiac imaging procedures (CT, MRI, nuclear cardiology and echocardiography), as well as provide general cardiology and clinical lipidology services.
Chelsea Navarrette, MD
Chelsea Navarrette, MD, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine, received her medical degree and completed an Internal Medicine Residency at UNMC. Dr. Navarrette, will provide hospitalist services and outpatient care. She will have clinic hours every day except Tuesday. Dr. Navarrette has professional interests in health screening and disease prevention.
Anery Patel, MBBS
Anery Patel, MBBS, clinical instructor, Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, completed her medical degree at the Government Medical College, Surat, India. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at St. Joseph Medical Center in New Jersey and a Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism fellowship at UNMC. Dr. Patel will be conducting research – she is the first recipient of the Internal Medicine Scientist Development Award, provide patient care, and have teaching responsibilities. Her research interests are in thyroid disease and thyroid cancer.
Rachel Thompson, MD
Rachel Thompson, MD, associate professor, Division of General Internal Medicine, completed her medical degree, her Internal Medicine Residency and a Masters in Public Health at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Thompson comes to UNMC after her position as associate professor at the University of Washington. She was recruited to head the new Section of Hospital Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine. She is also medical director for Clinical Care Transitions at Nebraska Medicine. Dr. Thompson has research interests in perioperative care programs, patient engagement and experience and clinical care transitions.
Tammy Wichman, MD
Tammy Wichman, MD, associate professor, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Allergy, received her medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine. She completed an Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency and a Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond. Dr. Wichman comes to UNMC from Creighton University as associate professor, where she served many rolse including program director of the Internal Medicine Residency program, Medical Director of the ICU, and chief, Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep Medicine. Dr. Wichman will attend on the ICU service, as well as see pulmonary consults and pulmonary clinic patients. Dr. Wichman has professional interests in pulmonary hypertension.
Noah Wiedle, MD
Noah Wiedle, MD, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine, completed his medical degree at the American University of the Caribbean. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Sioux Falls. Dr. Wiedle is a hospitalist on the Loomis team. Dr. Wiedle has research interests in fecal microbiota transplant for recurrent Clostridium difficile infection.
Jill Zabih, MD
Jill Zabih, MD, assistant professor, Division of General Internal Medicine, completed her medical degree at UNMC. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Wisconsin where she was also the chief resident. Dr. Zabih will serve as a hospitalist. She has particular professional interests in point-of-care ultrasound and bedside teaching.

Clayton Jordan, DO
Clayton Jordan, DO, ambulatory chief resident, received his medical degree from Des Moines University. He completed Internal Medicine Residency at UNMC. Dr. Jordan has research interests in gastroenterology. He said he loves taking care of patients with complex diseases across all organ systems. He is a member of the American Medical Association. Something Dr. Jordan said people may not know about him is that he has traveled to 12 different countries.
Shana Peper, MD
Shana Peper, MD, VA chief resident, received her medical degree and completed her internal medicine residency at UNMC. Dr. Peper’s research interests are in outcomes of resident education on guideline-driven care and point-of-care order sets. Dr. Peper said she fell in love with internal medicine because of the opportunity to form lasting connections with patients and their families, as well as the thrill of diagnosing, evaluating and managing complex multisystem disease processes. A few things Dr. Peper said you may not know about her are: 1) I am a huge Husker fan, 2) Reading all the literary classics is on my bucket list, and 3) I love to travel with my husband and English bulldog.
Rae Rohlfsen, MD
Rae Rohlfsen, MD, UNMC chief resident – UNMC, received her medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at UNMC. She has professional interests in obesity and weight loss and patient education. Rae said she loves working with people and fell in love with general internal medicine because it provided the best opportunity to work with the “whole person” while simultaneously allows for the opportunity to build relationships. Dr. Rohlfsen is a member of the American College of Physicians. Something Dr. Rohlfsen said you may not know about her is that she loves country line dancing and would live in boots if she could. She said she also likes to run, but, some days she forces herself to do it so she can eat more dessert.
