On Nov. 28-29, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) will visit UNMC to conduct a comprehensive evaluation for institutional re-accreditation. UNMC has been continuously accredited since 1913. The university last underwent a comprehensive self-study and site visit during the 2006-07 academic year.
Detailed campus-wide planning for the upcoming visit has been ongoing since June 2014 with five different committees consisting of faculty, administrators, staff and students working to ensure that all components of the accreditation are being addressed. Detailed information on the process involved can be found on the UNMC accreditation website at http://unmc.edu/aboutus/accreditation/index.html, along with a draft of the current plan including the timeline, committees involved and a draft assurance argument. All UNMC faculty, staff and students are strongly encouraged to visit this site and review these documents and give input as edits will continue prior to the final submission to the HLC on Oct. 31.
As part of its federal compliance process, the HLC also invites the public to provide written comments, which are forwarded to the HLC evaluation team to include in their review of the institution. To be considered, comments are due in HLC’s office by mid-October.
