World Breastfeeding Week events at UNMC

Sonja Kinney, M.D., medical director of the Olson Center for Women's Health

The Olson Center for Women’s Health will be marking World Breastfeeding Week with a series of events at UNMC during the week of Aug. 1.

“The Olson Center care team seeks to support our pregnant patients from the decision to breastfeed all the way through establishing a successful breastfeeding experience,” said Sonja Kinney, M.D., medical director of the center.

“We make sure all of our pregnant patients understand the benefits of breastfeeding to the mother and baby. We encourage all of our patients to review our educational brochures and attend in-person classes to be better prepared for breastfeeding. After our new mothers deliver, we have nursing staff and lactation counselors that give specialized hands-on education at the bedside. We are very excited to be participating in the upcoming Breastfeeding Exhibit Fair.”
