MMI’staffers honored at Association for Genetic Technology meeting

Pam Althof, supervisor of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s Human Genetic Laboratory, has been selected by the Foundation for Genetic Technology to receive this year’s Genome Award. A Genome Award recipient must be a member of the Association of Genetic Technologists (AGT), have four-plus years of experience in cytogenetics or molecular genetics, and be certified as a technologist in cytogenetics or molecular genetics.

The selection criteria for the award included:

• quality of abstract, essay, award, or grant;
• outstanding professional performance;
• evidence of outstanding contribution to the profession of cytogenetics or molecular genetics; and
• initiative.

Diane Pickering, Human Genetics Laboratory manager, was selected to give the 2016 Margaret Barch Memorial Workshop at the 41st annual meeting for the Association of Genetic Technologists. Her workshop was titled ” Clinical Microarray Testing — Current Applications & Methodology.”
