Nearly10,000 people are turning 65 every day in the United States.
With the senior population growing faster than any other age group, organizations like EngAge Wellness in the Home Instead Center for Successful Aging at the University of Nebraska Medical Center are experiencing an increased demand for social service programs focused on seniors.
Unfortunately, only two percent of funding from the nation’s largest grant makers is specifically focused on seniors. Centers like EngAge Wellness rely on the generous support of the Omaha community to continue programs and services that empower seniors to remain independent and enhance their quality of life.
On July 12 to 14, UNMC’s EngAge Wellness will participate in the first-ever GIVE65 Event, a 65-hour online giving event to help nonprofit organizations serving seniors raise funds online and increase awareness. Sixty-five nonprofits from 31 states are participating in the inaugural event.
During the GIVE65 Event, UNMC’s EngAge Wellness will receive a $2,500 matching grant from the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation to incentivize giving at the local level. Financial rewards of $10,000 also are available to organizations raising the most money or having the most donors participate. Donations of $10 or greater are accepted.
“GIVE65 is an innovative way for our community to raise awareness and help our older adults,” said Jeannie Hannan, Ph.D., EngAge Wellness manager.
The 65-hour GIVE65 event begins at midnight on Tuesday, July 12 and continues until 5 p.m. CDT on Thursday, July 14. The virtual event is an initiative of the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation® and the nation’s first and only crowd-fundraising platform focused exclusively on helping nonprofit organizations across the country raise funds for programs and services benefiting seniors.
“Every gift will go toward helping seniors at the local level in communities across the country,” said Roger Baumgart, executive director of Home Instead Senior Care Foundation. “We’re excited to partner with UNMC’s EngAge Wellness for the inaugural GIVE65 EVENT, which we hope will engage the nation and shine a light on the need for financial support for senior-focused nonprofit programs and services. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for seniors around the country, especially those who are most in need of our help.”
