Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about Jackie Ostronic, administrative associate II, for the Interprofessional Experiential Center for Enduring Learning (iEXCEL℠).
- Name: Jackie Ostronic

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I work in program administration for iEXCEL℠. I provide support to the iEXCEL℠ leadership team in operations and internal/external communications.
Healing is one of UNMC/Nebraska Medicine’s shared organizational values. What does healing personally mean for you, your department and for the colleagues in your area?
For me, healing is a process that brings improved health and happiness. We can help others heal with our support and resources. For iEXCEL℠, I believe that healing can be achieved by leveraging creativity, technology and compassion to provide safer learning environments and improved care for patients.
What is your favorite summer activity?
Spending time at the lake with my family or going for a long walk.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I lived in Spain for four years, attended graduate school and met my husband there. We speak Spanish at home!
- I feel an even deeper connection to UNMC/Nebraska Medicine after being a patient. I had an uncommon pregnancy complication. The maternal fetal medicine team at Nebraska Medicine was amazing, and I am happy to say my son Connor is a happy and healthy baby. Now, I am a strong advocate for more research on preventing preterm birth.
- My husband and I are foodies and enjoy learning all about food. Right now we are watching all of Anthony Bourdain’s shows on Netflix.
It's always nice to read about people with whom we communicate, but don't have a chance much to meet in person! The article was probably written before it happened, but Jackie's dad is a hero who helped save a woman in an accident last Monday! What a great couple of people!
