Dr. Vose is the Neumann M. and Mildred E. Harris Professorial Chair and Chief of the Oncology/Hematology Division in the Department of Internal Medicine at UNMC and the associate director of clinical research at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

She also introduced guest speaker Vice President Joe Biden, who discussed the Cancer Moonshot initiative.

“It has been an honor to have served as the 52nd president of ASCO and to lead the organization during a time of tremendous change in oncology practice and research,” Dr. Vose said. “This year, I have traveled extensively throughout the world to visit other cancer centers and teams of cancer physicians and researchers. In addition, I spent a lot of time at ASCO headquarters to interact with the thousands of other ASCO volunteers and staff on topics of importance to the field of oncology and our patients.

“The networking that I was able to accomplish in the past year will be beneficial for Nebraska Medicine and UNMC going forward as we open the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and well into the future for ongoing connections to the oncology community in the U.S. and worldwide. I hope to bring much of the new knowledge I have received over the past several years with ASCO to help formulate a bright future for oncology care and research.”

“The UNMC Department of Internal Medicine is extremely proud of Julie and the great work she has done in advocating for cancer patients everywhere in her role as ASCO president,” said Debra Romberger, M.D., chair of the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine. “There is no one more committed than she to delivering the best care to patients everywhere. Thanks, Julie, for doing this work.”

During her term as ASCO president, Dr. Vose wrote more than 15 blogs, was published in the New York Times and filmed the annual ASCO theme video “Collective Wisdom,” at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine featuring many of our patients, families and staff.

ASCO is an organization of more than 41,000 oncology professionals worldwide. The organization has a global reach and is considered the preeminent oncology society. ASCO’s mission is to conquer cancer through research, education, prevention and high-quality cancer care.
