MMI staffers receive scholarships
On June 9, the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s operating board held a scholarship presentation for two speech language pathology students who also are members of the MMI recreational therapy staff. Emma Fleischer, who will begin graduate school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this fall, received the Rhoda Davis Blatt Scholarship. The scholarship is in memory of longtime UNMC and MMI staff member Rhoda Davis Blatt, who was the first administrator of Camp Munroe. Sydney Rhoades, who will be a senior at UNL in the fall, received the Hattie B. Munroe Foundation Scholarship.
World Refugee Day Health Fair to be held Saturday
A World Refugee Day Health Fair, sponsored by Bridge to Care with the UNMC College of Public Health’s Service Learning Academy, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Joslyn Art Museum, 2200 Dodge St.
The event will feature free health screenings and a variety of health-related information. Participating health providers will include:
- UNMC College of Public Health;
- UNMC Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science;
- UNMC College of Medicine;
- UNMC College of Nursing;
- Creighton Florence Clinic;
- Charles Drew Health Center;
- Creighton Dental;
- Omaha Public Schools; and
- other providers.
Thousands on hand for 2016 Cattlemen’s Ball
The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center sponsored a tent and provided free facial sun damage assessments and UNMC nursing students from the Lincoln division performed blood pressure checks. Students from the Cancer Research Doctoral Program were in attendance to discuss their research. The Cattlemen’s Ball has raised more than $12 million since beginning in 1998.
