The switch was flipped the evening of June 7 to light the C.L. Werner Cancer Hospital sign at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. The sign adds to the impressive look of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center for anyone walking or driving by in the evening. C.L. Werner was in attendance for the event.
The C.L. Werner Cancer Hospital, on the north side of the facility, is one of two wings of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, the other being the Suzanne and Walter Scott Cancer Research Tower.
The subcontractors for the sign are AWS and ASI Signage. The overall length of the sign is nearly 63 feet, with a total weight of nearly 379 pounds. LED lights illuminate the sign from the inside.
A gift from the C.L. Werner Foundation allowed the hospital tower to bear the name of the chairman of Werner Enterprises Inc., one of the largest truckload motor carriers in the country. Today, the company maintains its global headquarters in Omaha with offices throughout North America and China. Werner founded the company in 1956 with one truck at the age of 19.
