Dr. Stuberg re-appointed to state board of health

Wayne Stuberg, Ph.D.

Wayne Stuberg, Ph.D., has been re-appointed to a five-year term on the Nebraska Board of Health and re-elected to a second one-year term as the president of the board.

Dr. Stuberg, interim director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute, will become the associate director and director of clinical affairs at the institute when new director Karoly Mirnics, M.D., Ph.D., arrives in July.

In his role for the state, Dr. Stuberg will serve as an advisor to the chief medical officer of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The board oversees the regulation and licensure of health professionals throughout the state of Nebraska. The board also works within DHHS in a regulatory role of recommending members to the professional boards of all licensed health care providers in Nebraska and reviews regulatory language for health care bills.

“I am excited to begin my second five-year term on the board of health, and honored to be reelected for a second year as president of the board,” Dr. Stuberg said. “The State of Nebraska has many health challenges facing it, such as obesity, the Zika virus and smoking, to name just a few, and the board of health must be prepared to assist DHHS.”

Dr. Mirnics congratulated Dr. Stuberg on the appointment.

“Having worked with Wayne as I transition into my new role as the director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute, I have come to know him as a committed leader and a caring professional. This appointment is a tribute to both Dr. Stuberg and the MMI community, and I’m sure the state will benefit greatly from Dr. Stuberg’s dedication and insight. I know that I will, as well, as he continues to help lead the institute in his new role as associate director and director of clinical affairs.”

UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., added his good wishes.

“It is gratifying to see Dr. Stuberg’s expertise recognized by the governor and his fellow board members,” Dr. Gold said. “Having worked with Dr. Stuberg as he served as the interim director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute, I have firsthand knowledge of his leadership skills, as well as his commitment to the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s patients and families. The state of Nebraska will be well-served by Dr. Stuberg, and we are of course proud to have him as a leader in our UNMC community.”
