Kim Latacha, Ph.D., an assistant professor of genetics, cell biology and anatomy in the UNMC College of Medicine, was awarded the 2016 Excellence in Basic Science Teaching Award in April.
The award was established by Carol Swarts, M.D., to recognize the importance of dedicated basic science teaching faculty members who enrich the lives of students and shape outstanding health care providers.
A 1959 graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine, Dr. Swarts created the award to acknowledge the contributions and lifelong friendships of three of her classmates Margaret Hancock Peterson, M.D. and Marilyn Meyers, M.D. (members of the class of 1959) and Gretchen Glode Berggren, M.D., class of 1958.
"Dr. Latacha is an excellent example of an inspiring educator that stimulates students to learn anatomy," said Gerald Moore, M.D., senior associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Medicine. "She is well respected by the students and is an asset to the College of Medicine."
Dr. Swarts presented the award to Dr. Latacha.
