UNMC hosted a group of leaders and educators from Northeast Community College in Norfolk last week, taking the opportunity to showcase the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit and the iEXCELâ„ MultiTaction Wall to representatives of a valued collaborator.
Northeast Community College is the site of the College of Nursing Northern Division, which opened in 2010.
UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., invited Northeast President Michael Chipps, Ph.D., and other representatives of the college to visit campus after Northeast hosted Dr. Gold earlier this year.
“We’re here to figure out how we can do some other collaborative ventures,” Dr. Chipps said, “So Dr. Gold made arrangements for us to take a look at a variety of different technologies that might have some applications for both institutions.”
UNMC is an amazing place, Dr. Chipps said — “not just locally, not just statewide, it’s international in scope, and we’ve always known that.”
Any potential collaborations, he said, would focus on the students.
“It’s always about the students,” Dr. Chipps said. “These are individuals who are constituents within the state. What we need to do is to figure out ways to collaborate together, because we are both public institutions trying to deliver quality health care education.”
Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., dean of the UNMC College of Nursing, said it was a pleasure to host the group during their visit.
“Our collaboration with Northeast Community College has been a very important and successful one for the College of Nursing,” Dr. Sebastian said. “The opportunity to explore different or expanded collaborations is exciting for the college and UNMC as a whole.”
